WSV

The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) in Germany is responsible for the safe and smooth flow of traffic on its federal waterways, including the maintenance, operation, expansion, and new construction of these waterways. The WSV oversees approximately 23,000 km² of maritime waterways and around 7,300 km of inland waterways, ensuring a safe and economically efficient shipping traffic.

In the AVIS project, WSV provides to the consortium its unrivalled expertise on inland waterways navigation and operation and all aspect linked to the Rhine pilot. WSV will be contributing to the following tasks:

  • Definition of operational scenarios

  • Identification of user requirements

  • Safety case and design

  • Identification and analysis of challenges and barriers for automated vessels

  • Prototype development and design of the pilot projects

  • Implementation, demonstration and validation of pilot projects

  • Outreach activities and Advisory Board

  • Standardisation activities
