The AVIS project is approaching its conclusion, and we are pleased to invite you to the AVIS Final Event, taking place on 3 December 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, as part of DISC ’26.

The Final Event will bring together the AVIS consortium and stakeholders from across the inland waterway sector to present and discuss the main results of the project, share lessons learned from its pilot activities, and look ahead at the future of automated navigation on European inland waterways.

Throughout the project, AVIS has investigated key aspects of automated inland waterway navigation, covering inland waterway operations, user requirements, safety, technical solutions and standardisation. The Final Event will bring these different strands of work together, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of what has been achieved and the main conclusions emerging from the project.

From project results to real-world experience

A central part of the afternoon will be dedicated to the experience gained through the AVIS pilot activities.

The consortium will present the results and lessons learned from four pilot locations across Europe: the Guadalquivir, Lower Danube, Rhine and Middle Danube.

These sessions will provide the basis for a broader discussion on the project's conclusions and perspectives. The programme will therefore go beyond presenting results and will also address recommendations and next steps, looking at how the knowledge gained through AVIS can contribute to the continued development of automated navigation on European inland waterways.

Exchange with the AVIS consortium and stakeholders

The Final Event will conclude with a dedicated stakeholder panel and open discussion.

The session will provide an opportunity to reflect on the project's main outcomes and lessons learned, discuss remaining challenges and explore the next steps for automated navigation. Selected experts will introduce key topics and questions before opening the discussion to the wider audience.

Participants will therefore have the opportunity not only to discover the final results of AVIS, but also to exchange directly with the consortium and other stakeholders and contribute to the discussion on the future of automated navigation on European inland waterways.
